The high beds helped us to sleep well and the green grass
opened our appetite. We had a big breakfast and no need to plan the day since
it was very clear what we would do. We will mix culture and nature. Ioana opened
the morning with a morning jog. After almost one month of not running, there is
a need to go back to a more moderate plan.
Anyhow, there is an hour ride to Corning where we are going
first. Corning plates are known around the world for their resistance and
lightness. However, the museum was not about plates but about a lot of glass
sculptures and a lot of interactive demos for kids which explain the glass
making and the glass characteristics. For example, we learned about strength
points and what makes glass fragile or where to hit it so it will not brake. We
saw two live demos of preparing glass bottles. It is fascinating. This time we
reached the museum at noon and in spite of the big breakfast we had at home, we
still had to pay the high rates of the museum restaurant. The boys told me: we
are growing- -we need to eat – so Yoram and I had coffee and they had a slice
of pizza each. In addition, the museum had the map in Hebrew, which made us
feel very welcomed.
From Corning, we went to eat something before reaching the
wild nature. Corning offered a reasonable variety of gluten free restaurants.
We chose one and it was a good selection (at least the kids liked it a lot –
Tamar liked the ravioli and the boys the lasagna). Corning city is sleepy and
all u can do is wait for the grass to grow.
We drove to Watkins Glen. On the way, we saw a big field
full of cars and caravans and we immediately checked it out. Turned out this is
one of the famous places for races (Nascar) and the race is tomorrow. So all
the people came from far away to see it.
We entered the state park at 17:30 and Ioana was afraid that
it would be dark. However, here the sun sets down at 20:30. The park is for the
Watkins Glen creek. A water streams across the park and the main trail leads
the travelers along it. There are 600 stairs but it is so beautiful that u do
not feel it at all. U pass under the waterfalls and on bridges across the river
and it is really nice.
We didn’t walk the whole trail to the end but almost
near the end we moved from Gorges trail to Indian trail and returned to the
car. This trail is above the previous one and walks through the woods. Really
nice. We finished around 19:00 and started our way back home.

In our way home, we decided to visit Cornell campus,
although it was late and the kids were grumpy. This was a good decision. The
campus is gorgeous. At the entrance, we encountered some bambies. Immediately
after that the big space and the green grass, the imposturous buildings revealed.
We told the children to watch carefully, since it’s a very good place to study
when they are older.
We spent the evening at home, opening a Netflix account (now
that we suspended “Yes” before we came here).

Side note: regarding of “cutting the cord” trend statistics: 2
out of 2 of our hosts had no cables – only hulu or Netflix accounts.
