The Amish County - 10/8

We started the morning in slow motion. Yoram slept with Yoni on the sofa and Ioana slept perpendicular with Tamar's and Amir's legs.  After a short family consortium we decided to cancel the other room and to keep the cuddling momentum one more night.
The breakfast included in the room price is more or less the same in all hotels here. It includes scrambled eggs and some kind of sausage, cornflakes, yogurts, bagels and the attraction is a waffle machine. The boys became experts in preparing it. Tamar is bringing her cornflakes and pasta for breakfast. No vegetables at all are served. Also, there is no one who asks in what room we are.
The hotel we are staying at has an indoor pool and a basketball court. The children were so happy that the evening before they told us that they will visit the pool in the morning and no other plan can be considered before that.
Amir and Tamar in the pool
So we spent around one hour at the pool and playing basketball. (Yoram won the tournament, mainly because of his height advantage). Then the kids decided to take a bath since they were frozen from the pool so we wait a little bit more and watch TV and then lunch time so we prepared some sandwiches and eat some more and. .... around 13:00 we left the room.
The plan for today is to see the Amish. So for that we drove to Lancaster. We took a side road to feel the country side. We had no idea where to go in Lancaster, but as we entered the city we saw a sign to the visitors center. So we followed it on the map and reached it. The place is also the exit point for a bus tour to the Amish places. We booked the tour and together with a Belgium family we started to drive though the country small roads. The bus conductor was also the guide. He explained a lot about the Amish lifestyle.

Amish ranch
The first stop was on a covered bridge. Those are not so popular anymore but nice to see them. Then we saw the crops and the barns and we learned about the schooling system of the Amish. Well, not very ideal.

You can see a phone booth, just in front of the tree.
They are not allowed to have phones inside their homes or barns

They grow Tobacco (mainly for cigars).
The yellow is for cigarettes, the green for cigars

They are not allowed to learn after the eight grade. They can use electricity for their businesses but not in their homes. The same applies to the phone. And to cars. They can ride the bus but not own a car. At the end we reached a house which can be visited. With horses and cows and a gift shop with hand made quilts. The buggies and the horses are in each home. They do use propane gas to utilize more modern machines like ovens and washing machines, etc. Well, it is interesting. After 1.5 hours we finished the tour. Already 16:00 so it's time for food again. Yoram prepared in advanced a gluten free and veggie restaurant which we visited. It was indeed very healthy - they don't serve cola for example. We ate and in our way home we stopped at Best Buy and bought Yoni a laptop. Now he is very happy.
Again we arrived home a little late. Yoni opened the computer happily, only to discover it needs 3 hours of charging before first use.
A little disappointed (but still very happy :-)) we went to bed.
